4 Tips to Get Back on Track

Getting fit and healthy is a great goal. It can also be quite challenging! Bad habits just feel so good, don’t they? And many of us have picked up plenty of those during lockdown.

The problem is that unhealthy food often tastes so delicious! It can be sweet and sugary or so tempting that it’s easy to ignore the fact that it’s unhealthy, and we vow to start our diet or fitness routine another day!

But being healthy has so many benefits.

  • You’ll feel stronger.
  • Have more natural energy.
  • You’ll look better, feel better, and be better.

In fact, once you build exercise and healthy eating into your everyday routine, you’ll improve your quality of life now and well into your future.

1.    It all starts with your diet

Your diet is one of the most straightforward fixes you can make. Make a promise to yourself that you will refuse to buy instant, ready-made meals, takeaways and junk food, and instead cook healthy, nutritious meals that your body will thank you for.

As your goal is to get both fit and healthy, you should consider eating more nutritious foods suggested by a nutritionist, dietician or personal trainer. At The Fitness Room Honeybourne, we understand how difficult it can be to break old habits, so we can offer you personalized, nutritious meal plans so that you can start eating healthily and gain the strength you need to get back into shape.

2.    Be more active in your everyday life

It’s easy to work through your lunch-break or throw yourself down on the sofa after a hard day at work, and your energy levels may be low. But the best way to energise your body is actually to do some form of exercise and release those feel-good endorphins!

Start by simply increasing your general activity. Go for a walk at lunchtime,  go bike riding at the weekend with your family or just have a good old dance around your living room. It all counts! By being more active, you will start to improve your fitness levels immediately.

Once you have got used to the increase in your activity, you can progress to a gym workout, group exercise class or hire a personal trainer to help motivate you and achieve your goal.

3.    Get enough sleep and drink enough water

When you consistently eat well, are active, and when your routines are committed, you’ll feel better and will enjoy a healthier body.

In the morning, this means rising at a regular time, drinking plenty of water and enjoying a nutritious breakfast. You should try and go to bed and wake up at the same time every day if possible.

Getting at least 7 hours of sleep every night will help you feel rejuvenated and allow your body to recover from the stresses of the day.

4.    Know when you need help!

It can be overwhelming when you consider the lifestyle changes you need to make to ensure you become fit and healthy. But you don’t have to do it all alone. Ask your partner, flatmate or family to join you on your journey. You’ll motivate each other to stay on track.
